Criterion spent several years exploring the edges of social investing, including significant work with the pension fund of The United Methodist Church. As a result of the unlikely nodes of our network connecting around the issue, Criterion President Joy Anderson joined our efforts with two partners, Kevin Jones and Timothy Freundlich to form Good Capital. Good Capital is an investment firm that increases the flow of capital to innovative ventures that create market-based solutions to global problems. We believe in the power of the market to create a more equitable economy and sustainable world.
Our first product, the Social
Enterprise Expansion Fund (SEEF), leverages
the power of venture capital to increase the
impact of social enterprises. Structured
as a late-stage venture capital fund, SEEF
provides growth capital to expansion stage
social enterprises that harness the power of
business to create positive social and
environmental change in the world. SEEF
focuses on a variety of sectors including Fair
Trade, healthy, local food systems, workforce
development, financial services, access to
healthcare, and education. Its
combination of growth capital and expertise
acts as a catalyst that enables proven social
enterprises to go to scale, amplifying their
social impact and financial return. SEEF offers
investors a savvy, rigorously screened, and
closely managed vehicle to align their
investment strategies with their values, earn
an attractive return, and maximize their total
impact.
