Naming in Ventures: Healthcare_Uncovered
In these conversations, we initially named the presenting issue as medical debt. As we learned more, we focused in on problems growing out of uncovered Healthcare Costs, renaming the project Healthcare Uncovered. Through formal and informal conversations, our frame was redefined further and a focus on the cash market of health care emerged.
Our frame, admittedly, comes from where we sit.
We are not inside the health care system; we are not policy analysts. We are social entrepreneurs working on large scale solutions to social problems. We sit closely aligned with the disciplines of the capital markets and enterprises that create business based solutions to social problems. We value a systems approach but work more in the margins, making unexpected connections visible across traditional sectors. And, we see ourselves as complementary to other lenses on health care reform.
Continuing to refine how we name what we are
working on has also allowed us to engage
various resources and players along the
way. Our interest in pursuing the problem
even as it changes and through all sorts of
complexity has kept people at the table,
helping and working with us to move further
towards a solution.
